The main character of the novel is Sergei Georgievich, the rector of one of the Moscow universities, alone fighting corrupt officials from the Ministry of Education. He is one of those people who, fortunately, are not so few in modern Russia. They do not have an indifferent attitude towards life; they are people with an active life position and a clear conscience. The main character comes to the conclusion about the need for political reforms, the crisis of the political system, the modernization of government bodies, and fundamental changes in the country. It seems that he has the answer to the question: “How to defeat corruption?”
