In our age of high technology and progressive discoveries, man, alas, has ceased to be the highest value. Often he is just an object for research, faceless biomass with which you can do whatever you want in the name of science. Polanski looks into the not-so-distant future and paints a scary picture: people are cloning themselves so that they always have the right organ for transplantation at hand. This is so self-evident that no one even thinks about what is happening there - in the Alien Lands, where those who were born to be donors live. The main character, Ray, also for the time being lives as if he does not know about these unfortunate people. But then he meets one of them, who accidentally escaped from the reservation and recognizes himself in twenty-year-old Alan. From that moment on, he can no longer live as before, as prudence advises him...
