The author, professor of political theory at the London School of Economics, offers his answer to one of the central questions of modern political science: how should a political system respond to the presence of multiple cultures in one society; How should their coexistence be organized to avoid conflicts? C. Kukatas's approach differs from the views on this issue of mainstream political science, although perhaps closest to the point of view of classical liberalism. The key concept of C. Kukatas's theory is tolerance: the best way to treat different cultural and other groups, as constituting the majority, the same with minorities, it is to demand that they leave each other alone. Instead of trying to judge by justice, freedom of association should be chosen as the main regulative principle, combined with freedom to leave the association, the latter being “the only fundamental right of the individual, since all other rights either follow from it or are granted to the individual by the community.”< /p>
