The book debut of the young Perm prose writer Mikhail Shalamov was the ironic detective story “The Strict Hare on the Road” (Perm, 1988). His second book contains fantastic works, both already published in periodicals and new ones. For the story “The Gray Chrysanthemum,” the author was awarded first prize at the International Science Fiction Short Story Competition, held in 1980 by the editors of youth magazines in socialist countries.
