Yulia Sergeevna Axelrod is the granddaughter of L.D. Trotsky. At the age of fourteen, due to a dangerous relationship, Yulia and her maternal grandparents went to Siberia. The girl knew her mother, Henrietta Rubinstein, the second wife of Sergei, the youngest son of the Trotskys, mainly by correspondence. Yulia Sergeevna lived for forty-two years in a country called the USSR, and for twenty-five years in the USA. Now she lives in Israel, where she left after her only son. Having in her hands letters from her father to her mother and correspondence from the Trotsky family, she decided to publish these materials as a family history. The result was not just another Trotskyan work. Here is a tragic family saga, far from the internal party struggle and ambitious aspirations of first the head of state, then the victim of the regime he created.
