Vladimir Vertlieb was born in 1966 in Leningrad and at the age of five he and his parents left for the West. Lives and works in Salzburg since 1981. Published since 1993. Author of the story “Exile” (1995), the novels “The Special Memory of Rosa Mazur” (2001), “The Last Wish” (2003), the collection of stories “My First Murderer” (2006). “Stops Along the Way” (1999) - almost autobiographical a story about the fate of a family of Soviet Jewish emigrants trying to find refuge in different countries of the world, but forced again and again to leave the next “way station”. The narrator, not without irony and sadness, with an accurate depiction of circumstances and characters, builds the novel's geography (Israel, Italy, America, Holland, Austria), which he learned as a child through life practice.
