When it comes to the SS troops, the first thing that comes to mind is the Leibstandarte. He was the very first and most famous. Its history began long before World War II: tall, fair-haired “true Aryans” in black uniforms stood guard next to Hitler’s residences and marched in parades. Over its short history - the Leibstandarte was only slightly younger than the one that gave birth to the Third Reich - in just 12 years, this unit from a small detachment of 117 people turned into one of the most powerful divisions of the German army.
