The book presents the experiences of hundreds of mothers, including interviews with specialists who work with mothers and with the women themselves, which is analyzed using data from neurobiology, somatic therapy, mindfulness practices and hypnotherapy.
The author attaches great importance to the importance of mothers' emotional reactions to problems with breastfeeding, noting the increased risk of postpartum depression in such women and the loss of connection between mother and baby in such cases. The book shows that the trauma of breastfeeding failure can be healed when mothers recognize it and receive support, such as by tapping into some of the neuroscience processes that allow the brain to heal.
