Bakhrushin tells about the discovery of the Amur River by Russian Cossacks in the second half of the 17th century, their attempts to gain a foothold on its banks and the first military clash between Russia and China, which resulted in the Treaty of Nerchinsk, which laid the limit of Russian penetration further east for more than a hundred years.
