Autumn fog falls on the coast of Vestfold, Norway, but it hides dark deeds. Uwe Bakkeryd arrives at his summer dacha, not yet closed for the winter, and discovers that it has been looted. In the house of his neighbor, popular TV presenter Thomas Rönningen, he discovers the body of a man beaten to death. Police Inspector William Wisting has had to investigate strange murders before, but in the feverish desperation with which this crime was committed, he sees something new. Wisting's concern only increases when his daughter Line, as if to spite him, decides to stay in one of the houses at the mouth of the fjord, and suspicions of involvement in the murder fall on her boyfriend.
