Konstantin Fedin’s story “Drawing from Lenin” is almost documentary. It is small in volume. First, Fedin wrote the essay “Living Lenin” (1939). It was born as an eyewitness’s recollection of the events of 1920, of V.I. Lenin’s participation in the demonstration on the opening day of the Second Congress of the Communist International in Petrograd and his speech at the Congress. Then the essay was reworked into a story. The intonation of personal participation in great events in the story was preserved, and autobiographical features are felt in the young artist Sergei.
