The Greek historian Plutarch (1st century BC) is known for his “Comparative Lives” of prominent Greek and Roman statesmen and public figures. The book “Famous Greeks,” published in 1961, has already introduced the reader to the biographies of prominent people ancient Greece, and “Famous Romans” will tell about the famous figures of ancient Rome. The compilers presented biographies of the Romans, eliminating little-known names, incomprehensible historical terms, naive explanations of historical events, etc. Since Roman biographies presented, in comparison with Greek, for the most Plutarch is of secondary interest, then they included many unverified and distorted events and characteristics of people. Therefore, in a number of cases, the compilers supplemented the material of the biographies of Plutarch with facts taken from other ancient authors. The book includes the main biographies of famous Romans, which were retold for this edition by M. N. Botvinnik (“Tiberius Gracchus”, “Gaius Gracchus”, “Gaius Julius” Caesar"), B. M.
