Gustav Husak is the last communist president of Czechoslovakia. The book shows his life path, starting from childhood and ending with his death. The monograph is based on archival materials, including from the personal archive of its author, Soviet (Russian) and Czechoslovak (Czech and Slovak) documentary publications, including speeches and articles by G. Husak, as well as on Russian, Czech and Slovak literature known to the author. All stages of G. Husak’s biography are considered: youth, studies, joining the Communist Party, participation in the Slovak National Uprising, accusations of “Slovak bourgeois nationalism,” rehabilitation and return to politics, participation in the development of the law on the federalization of the Czechoslovak Republic, attitude to the events of August 1968 and participation in the Moscow negotiations on the normalization of the situation in Czechoslovakia, activities as the leader of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia, and then the President of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic, resignation and life after it.
