A book about the famous Fyodor Aleksandrovich Abramov (1920–1983) - philologist, teacher, critic, writer, a prominent representative of village prose. The drama of his literary biography, a heightened sense of justice, and uncompromising views give rise to the question: why didn’t he become a dissident? However, the reason for his death at 63 remains a big mystery... They grumbled at him for the truth in his words, for his bold speeches from large and small platforms, but for this they loved and respected him. He was akin to the rebellious archpriest Avvakum, capable of captivating him with the power of persuasion. The biography is based not only on the memories of those who knew the writer, but also on materials stored in St. Petersburg, in the personal archive of F. A. Abramov Institute of Literary Literature of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Pushkin House ). The author of the book, writer, historian Oleg Dmitrievich Trushin, was the first to explore this archive, which helped him uncover many new facts regarding literary activity, as well as find out details of the writer’s personal life that had previously been a secret.
