One thousand nine hundred and seventy-six. By decision of the FIDE Congress, Israel is hosting the World Chess Olympiad. At the same time, Libyan leader Colonel Gaddafi is holding a super tournament in Libya, inviting the world's leading chess players and thereby beheading the teams participating in the Olympics. This is facilitated by incredible prize money: even the participant who takes last place will receive a decent amount, and the winners will receive sums that are extraordinary for chess. And the plan works. The tournament is attended by the absolute champion Robert Fischer, the FIDE world champion Anatoly Karpov and, of course, Mikhail Chizhik. Everything is just beginning.
