The idea for the story “Rubber Sun, Plastic Clouds” arose after the mass shooting of students at the American Columbine school in 1999. The story of three teenagers who unite to create a bloodbath at their school became the first book in Ukraine about school violence. According to the author, “Rubber Sun, Plastic Clouds” is not high literature with ornate passages, but tin as it is, a story about how a city eats people, a chronicle of hell around the corner of a freshly painted facade. “This is a clear instruction for that rainy day when you have to invent a war for yourself, die in it and rot in a mass grave along with your battalion of losers,” says Voinitsky.
