“I’m that type. I am like a small country that has its own customs and traditions. Country Sasha". Sasha, haven’t you already learned at sixteen that this is true for everyone? And the customs and traditions of other people-countries can be surprising, or even completely strange. For example, with Zhenya - you’re about to fall in love with her, right?.. One single summer, short, like a frivolous pop hit, and just as unforgettable, turns the boy Sasha into a young man. First, things that seemed eternal disappear: mom hasn’t cooked cutlets on Sundays for a long time because you’re a vegetarian; you are no longer afraid of meat departments at the market or ghosts under the bed; even Michael Jackson - and he died unexpectedly. And then you meet a person who organizes a real revolution in your country. The story of Gala Uzryutova (born in 1983) is an honest and rich in psychological details text about that unique moment when childhood suddenly ends, and you don’t yet know what lies ahead. . The main character of this book is both recognizable and contradictory: on one page he seems weaker to both the reader and himself, and on the other he commits an act that not everyone would dare to do. In 2018, the writer became the winner of the Bookscriptor Prize in the “New Reality” category, and her prose, poetic texts and plays have been repeatedly published in literary magazines and translated into foreign languages. “Country Sasha” is her debut book for the “young adults” audience. The “YA” (young adults) series continues the collection “Generation www.”, beloved by CompassGuide readers. In the early 2010s, she became widely known for her acclaimed novels such as Tell Little Red Riding Hood by Beate Teresa Hanicki and Playing Dead by Stefan Kasta. Launched in 2010, that collection was the first in Russia aimed at the young adult audience, and now the line is expanding under a new name. YA brings together books that could only be written today—edgy, irreverent, challenging novels for readers 16 and older. The series was designed by the famous designer, co-founder of the Typomania festival Alexander Vasin.
