Philip K. Dick's (1928–1982) collection The Saving Machine (1969) presents the famous American science fiction writer as a brilliant master of the short genre; Each short story in it can easily be developed into a novel or become a film script. Here is the story of the girl Sylvia, who easily communicated with angels (from the story “On the Dim Earth”), and a joke story about the consequences of marriage with an alien (“What a blessing it is to be a blobel!”), and a saga about the attempts of earthlings to save works of art from destruction with the help of Nature itself (the story that gives the collection its title).
