A documentary novel that reveals one of the brightest pages in the history of the “broken” generation, or beatniks, as they were later called. Beat Hotel - where the daring and experimental beat culture, which does not recognize boundaries and limitations, was born. This bohemian hive was home to Allen Ginsberg, Peter Orlowski, Gregory Corso, William Burroughs, Brion Gysin and Ian Sommerville. Here William Burroughs completes Naked Lunch; this is where the cut-up method and the novel in this genre were born; Ginsberg and Corso meet Duchamp, Celine and Man Ray; and Gysin and Sommerville build the first “Dream Machine”. The author, who personally knew many of the “broken,” draws his material from diaries, letters and interviews. This is the first detailed account of the epicenter of the movement that gave a powerful impetus to the development of literature around the world.
