Marlene Haushofer (1920–1970) rightfully belongs to one of the leading places in the literature of post-war Austria. Until now, her work was practically unknown to Russian readers. M. Haushofer's main works are the story “The Adventures of Bartle the Cat” (1964), the novels “The Secret Door” (1957), “The Attic” (1969). The pinnacle of the writer’s work, the dystopian novel “The Wall” (1963), notes by a nameless woman who continues to live after the end of the world, was awarded the Arthur Schnitzler Prize.
