Doivber Levin (1904–1941) is called the “most forgotten” of the Oberiuts. He was the closest ally of D. Kharms, A. Vvedensky, I. Bakhterev - but all his Oberiut works were used to kindle stoves in besieged Leningrad, and the writer himself died in battle on the Leningrad front. And yet Levin left several books grotesque, densely written prose depicting the life of Jewish towns on the eve and during the revolution and civil war. Like other Oberiuts, the writer put into his stories, formally classified as children's literature, completely non-children's content: a bloody blizzard of historical cataclysm, ominously absurd speech and prophetic dreams... The works of Doivber Levin have not been republished since the 1930s. and in our publication they return to the reader. The book includes the fantastic story “The Flight of Herr Dumkopf,” as well as the stories “Ten Carriages” and “The Free States of Slavich.” Original illustrations by the masters of book graphics - A. Kaplan, N. Lapshin, S. Yudovin - have been preserved.
