The novel “Appendix to the Photo Album,” the story of a house inhabited by a family of “sideburn-born” uncles, has been called “the most phantasmagoric family chronicle ever written in Russian.” A dizzying interweaving of phantasmagoria, myth and reality is seen both in the story “Novocherkassk”, which takes you to provincial Russia, “the most real and magical”, and in the story “The Court of Great-Grandfather Grisha”, in the center of which a five-year-old child is also a narrator and myth-maker who finds beyond good and evil. And yet the phenomenon of this prose remains unsolved, since it itself explores mysterious phenomena - birth, life, death, sleep, reality - involving the reader in whirlwind events.
