Based on the first published documents of the Federal Intelligence Service (BND) and counterintelligence documents of the Ministry of State Security of the GDR, the authors describe the structure, methods and daily work of West German intelligence on the front lines of the Cold War. It details how West German intelligence agents spied on Soviet troops in Germany from the late 1940s until the fall of the Berlin Wall in the fall of 1989. The book shows that thousands of traveling salesmen, drivers, students, housewives and pensioners spent forty years engaged in intelligence in the interests of Pullach and often paid for their espionage activities with many years of imprisonment, and sometimes even with their lives.
