The book examines the history of the emergence and development of pacifism in Germany from the first half. 19th century until 1914. Along with the ideology and organization of the peacekeeping movement, the author explores its connections with the political culture and political system of Germany: dependence on socio-historical psychology, relations with educational institutions, creators of public opinion, socio-political movements and parties, and official authorities. A special chapter is devoted to the efforts of German and Russian pacifists to prevent a clash between both countries on the eve of the First World War.
