American writer L.F. Baum (1856-1919) invented the Land of Oz in 1900, when he published the fairy tale “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz,” in which the main characters were the girl Dorothy, the Scarecrow and the Tin Woodman. Children fell in love with this fairy tale, and the writer wrote its sequels until his death. In total, fourteen tales about the Land of Oz came from Baum’s pen. After Baum's death, readers did not want to part with their favorite characters, and several writers wrote sequels. Among them are R.P. Thompson, D.R. Neal, E. Shanower and others. The work of the Soviet writer A.M. stands apart. Volkov (1891-1977), who, based on the Land of Oz, created the alternative world of the Magic Land. In addition to the heroes born of Baum’s imagination, there are many other amazing creatures in it. In the fairy tale “Black Edelweiss,” all collisions unfold around a magical flower, which is the focus of world evil. The one who owns the flower owns the world. But standing in the way of the sorcerer Julius are the boys Tony and Johnny, the girl Leia, the good fairy Glinda, our beloved Scarecrow and the Tin Woodman, as well as their new friend Barrel Plum. However, the amazing, sometimes terrible events around Black Edelweiss are not limited to one fairy tale. The mysterious flower will return and do a lot of terrible things in the Land of Oz, which can be read about in the second fairy tale, “The Return of the Black Edelweiss.”
