For the first time, the reader had the opportunity to familiarize himself in Russian with the memoirs of Michal Kleofas Oginsky, published in Paris in 1826–1827. The publication is unique in that it writes new pages in the history of the Belarusian, Polish, and Lithuanian peoples. The memoirs of the outstanding politician, diplomat and musician M.K. Oginsky lift the curtain of time and add new touches to the picture of the dramatic events in the history of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth at the end of the 18th century and the situation in the Belarusian, Polish, and Lithuanian lands at the beginning of the 19th century. Through the eyes of an eyewitness, the turbulent life of Europe at that time is also presented, in particular the uprising of Tadeusz Kosciuszko, the Napoleonic wars, the figures of famous personalities are shown - King Stanislav August Poniatowski, Prince Potemkin, Emperor Alexander I, commander Napoleon Bonaparte and many others. From the pages of the memoirs a vivid image appears and Michal Kleofas Oginski himself. The second volume of our publication includes translations of the text of the third and fourth volumes of the French original.
