The authors of these memoirs were directly related to the protection of the Kremlin and the highest leaders of the state. Pavel Malkov was the first Kremlin commandant from March 1918 to April 1920. He often met with V.I. Lenin, Ya.M. Sverdlov, F.E. Dzerzhinsky and other prominent figures of the Soviet leadership. Stepan Gil was Lenin's personal driver and bodyguard, and after his death he served with Mikoyan and Vyshinsky. In their notes, P. Malkov and S. Gil tell a lot of interesting things about the official activities and personal life of the Kremlin leaders - primarily V.I. Lenin. These notes are all the more curious because they complement each other: for example, S. Gil was the main witness of Fanny Kaplan’s famous assassination attempt on Lenin, and P. Malkov then interrogated her and personally shot her. In a number of other episodes, the reader also has the opportunity to compare the memories of these two people who knew Lenin closely.
