The name of Konstantin Feoktistov may not tell the reader as much as the names of Yuri Gagarin, the first cosmonaut, or Alexei Leonov, the first person to walk into outer space. But in the history of space exploration, Feoktistov largely has primacy. He was the first “civilian” cosmonaut, he was part of the first group crew (together with V. Komarov and B. Egorov), which in 1964 flew on the first vehicle of the new Voskhod series (without spacesuits - also for the first time). Finally, Feoktistov was the first spaceship designer who had the chance to test his brainchild “in action”... Many remember the delight the launches of the first spaceships caused in the 60s. The exploration of the Universe was rightfully considered one of the greatest achievements of our country and aroused legitimate pride in people. It seems like it was just yesterday... And today many space programs are closed, others are in danger of collapse. Why did this happen? Is there a future for space research in our country? And do we really need them now, when there are enough worries on earth?
