Leonid Andreev (1871–1919) is a writer of surprisingly subtle and acute intuition, who left a unique mark on Russian literature. He boldly combines the depiction of specific pictures of real everyday life with a symbolic sound; expressively, sometimes through fantastic images, but surprisingly accurately and deeply, Andreev penetrates into the secrets of the human psyche. The “neo-mythological” novel “Sashka Zhegulev”, which in a special way combined a traditional and innovative style and reflecting the spirit of the revolutionary era of 1905, tells the story of the fate of a Russian terrorist .
