In the 19th century, slaves were kept in barracoons, in rooms with completely inhumane conditions. Later, the slaves themselves began to be called this. One of these was Kossola, but his real name was Cujo Lewis. He was taken from Africa on the ship Clotilda fifty years after the transatlantic slave trade was banned. In 1927, Zora Neale Hurston interviewed eighty-six-year-old Cudjo Lewis. Of the millions of men, women and children transported from Africa to America as slaves, Cudjo was the only living witness to the harrowing passage across the ocean, the horrors of the slave trade and the long-awaited attainment of freedom. Cudjo remembers his African home and the colorful way of village life, and in every phrase there is a vivid, the strong and original voice of a man who was born free and became known as the last slave in the USA. The publishing layout of the book is saved in PDF A4 format.
