The life of the great Russian scientist Vladimir Ivanovich Vernadsky (1863-1945) is beautiful and amazing, an example of integrity, saturation with the highest spiritual interests, and moral responsibility. His intelligent activities connect different eras in the history of Russia. He powerfully advanced all earth sciences, leading to a new understanding of society and personality. He created the doctrine of the biosphere and the mind in nature, gave a new idea of time and space and, consequently, discovered a new natural science, which only today is becoming intelligible to world scientific thinking. His time has come. In the new millennium, we need more than ever his extraordinary ideas about the eternity of life and the powers of the free human individual. Summing up his life, he said: “I did everything I could and did not make anyone unhappy.”
