A French polar expedition finds under the ice of Antarctica the remains of a destroyed city built no less than 900 thousand years ago. While exploring the ruins, scientists discover an underground structure that maintains a temperature close to absolute zero. At the center of this “egg” are two frozen bodies - a woman and a man... This wonderful science fiction novel, imbued with an anti-war spirit, had very bad luck in Russia. It could not be published in the USSR for political reasons and due to the presence of erotic scenes in the text. With the beginning of Prestroika, the novel was translated and published, but it remained unknown to a wide range of readers, since under the authorship of Henry Kuttner it was included in the collection of his works, “The Source of Worlds.”[1]
