The hero of Alexander Zvyagintsev’s novel “Natural Selection” is our contemporary who has gone through a harsh school of life. After long wanderings, he returns to his homeland and finds himself in a country that bears little resemblance to his former one. Russia is going through difficult times. The era of reforms and upheavals has given rise to powerful clans that are striving for power by hook or by crook. The hero of the novel Skif and his comrades, who fought with him in Afghanistan and Serbia, enter the fight against them. The novel was awarded the Association of Book Publishers award in the category “Best Bestseller” in 2004, as well as the award of the Russian Biographical Institute, the Russian State Library and the Literary Gazette "as the best book of the year in the category "Action-filled prose" in 2005. In different editions, the novel was published under the titles: "Russian Rambo for a business woman", "Serbian trace", "Satan's Ball".
