Mitch Albom (b. 1958) is an acclaimed American author, journalist, screenwriter, playwright, radio and television host, and musician, whose books have sold more than 39 million copies worldwide. The Five That Await You in Heaven (2003), Albom's debut novel, which spent 95 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list, was translated into 35 languages, and was the basis of a 2004 TV movie of the same name, is about old man Eddie, an amusement park technician who, at the cost of his life, saved a girl during a breakdown of one of the rides.
