In theological discussions, food is a very slippery topic. Unlike other books whose authors are either overly emotional or claim to be the only correct interpretation of key problems of theology, Vegetarianism in the World's Religions takes a close and logical look at this problem and analyzes it honestly, clearly and accurately. Despite the differences in doctrine and rituals, all religions unanimously recognize the need for moral principles and ethical principles. These foundations and principles inevitably imply vegetarianism and compassion for animals. This book aims to show that the first adherents of the world's major religions really preferred a life without meat and often promoted vegetarianism. Talking about vegetarianism and religions is especially difficult because of religious hypocrisy, which often preaches brotherly love and murder in the same breath. All believers (and many atheists) value mercy and compassion, but the world's religions do not care much about promoting these qualities. We show cruelty and intolerance towards our own kind, just as we do towards animals. Religion seems to fuel violence rather than eradicate it. There are many examples of this: the Crusades, the Inquisition, the endless war between Catholics and Protestants in Northern Ireland, the eternal hostility between Jews and their Islamic neighbors, Hindu-Muslim feuds in post-war India and the recent bloodshed resulting from clashes between Buddhists and Hindus in Sri Lanka. publication published in 1997 - ed.). Obviously, mercy and compassion, which most religions call for, bypasses not only animals, but also people belonging to other religions. An interesting selection of historical facts and quotes from the scriptures of different religions in support of vegetarianism.
