Her obsession was Edmund Cox, a man of sadistic cruelty who had killed more than twenty women. She went so far as to develop a close relationship with him, regularly visiting him in prison and corresponding with him. The girl was ready to do anything to get close to him, so when he gave her a task, she willingly agreed to it. She didn’t even suspect the horror that awaited her. Edmund asked her to go to a hut in the Killen forest and pick up the key that she must hand over to a mysterious figure known as the River Man. She takes her disabled sister with her on the journey, and they journey through a deep, dark valley, starting at the source of the river. Their camping trip quickly turns into a surreal nightmare that unleashes Laurie's inner demons. The very ones that the girl feels connect her with Edmund. The river is overflowing with blood, the cabin is a haven of terror, and ghostly blues music echoes through the mountains. They soon learn that the River Man is not a fiction or folklore figure, and he is definitely not human. At least not anymore. And the key is just the beginning of what it takes for Laurie to prove that she is truly worthy of a psychopath's love.
