The novel by Bayan Shiryanov is the most scandalous literary work of the Russian Internet in 1998. Submitted to the literary competition ART-TENETA-97, it caused heated controversy and protests from a number of participants who did not want to compete in the same competition with a work that so openly described the everyday life of drug addicts. The award of first place to this novel in the competition, made by the authoritative literary jury headed by Boris Strugatsky, further intensified the scandal, causing numerous articles and interviews in the online press. “Low pilotage” is a novel with Pervitin. Vint is a powerful psychostimulant that successfully competed with DNA molecules in the blood of post-Soviet bohemian and other declassed youth. The main drug of the early nineties was unprecedentedly accessible and cheap (in its weight category, of course, grass does not count). By the mid-nineties, it was supplanted by the twin brothers heroin and cocaine, but in people’s memory it is still more vivid than many living ones, fortunately the “screw party” - I would like to say “screw ethnos”, to such an extent the drug influenced the psyche and physiology of its adherents - it managed to acquire its folklore. “Low Aerobatics” is an encyclopedia of screw slang, crazy parables, weird signs and junkie wisdom. “Low Aerobatics” is the history of a generation, full of neon pictures “from life” and hysterical obscene conversations. Bayan Shiryanov’s style combines icy pathos in the spirit of Burroughs with sober journalistic irony; the intonations of hysteria, confessional monologue, physiological essay, anecdote and sensational report are fused in the novel without visible seams. A kind of biased impartiality, yearning hatred, understandable to anyone who has “jumped off.”
