Everything in this book, including poetry, is viewed through the prism of Pushkin’s private life and our entire history; at the same time, the author rejects the callous schemes of official Pushkin studies and at the same time adheres to historical realities as much as possible.
Concerning only the spiritual problems of existence has always been in the traditions of Russian literature, and the flesh, the same primary component of human nature, was only implied . There is a lot of carnality in this book - never before has Pushkin’s strongest eroticism, the most powerful engine of his poetic talent, been described in such detail. Private life has its own language, its own vocabulary (it is usually considered obscene); the author was not afraid to introduce it into the literary narrative.
