This edition reproduces in a reprint way the most famous and popular textbook on Orthodox dogmatic theology. Before the revolution, this was a manual by Rev. Nikolai Platonovich Malinovsky was used as the main seminary textbook and remained so in all the years that followed the post-war opening of seminaries. The author, rector of the Vologda Theological Seminary, compiled several versions of a systematic presentation of Orthodox dogma: 1) a short “Essay on Orthodox Christian Doctrine” (Sergiev Posad, 1912), intended mainly for schools, 2) a two-volume book “Essay on Orthodox Dogmatic Theology”, published twice. (the second edition of which we have chosen), and 3) an extensive four-volume work on dogmatics for Theological Academies, published over 14 years (Orthodox Dogmatic Theology. - Stavropol, 1895-1909) - based on the first two parts of this four-volume work by Archpriest. N. Malinovsky defended his master's thesis. The publication offered to the reader, compiled for students of the 5th and 6th grades of theological seminaries, turned out to be the most successful. It is much easier to understand and learn than “Dogmatic Theology” by Met. Makarii (Bulgakov), often too formal and requiring numerous memorizations. The presentation of the material basically coincides with the four-volume volume, but is simplified by reducing the voluminous patristic quotations illustrating the historical development of dogmas. The author pays special attention to the constant comparison of Orthodox dogma with Roman Catholic and Protestant doctrine. The book in the first edition was approved by the Educational Committee of the Holy Synod as a teaching aid for theological seminaries. Compiled in relation to the program of Dogmatic Theology. Archpriest N. Malinovsky, Rector of the Vologda Theological Seminary. Second edition. SERGIEV POSAD Printing house of St.-Tr. Sergius Lavra. 1912.
