Julie Hessler examines the history of Soviet trade from the October Revolution to the death of Stalin. During this time, property relations in Soviet society went through several fundamentally different stages, from war communism through the NEP to Stalin's attempt to minimize the private sector of the economy. Each of these stages was accompanied by certain challenges and tragedies, be it war or dispossession - and all of this together influenced the consumption habits of Soviet citizens. The author shows the cyclical nature of the Soviet trading sector - from crisis to normalization - and demonstrates the relationship that developed between the official and unofficial markets of the USSR. The publishing layout of the book is preserved in PDF A4 format.
