In your hands are notes from a traveling reporter from both continents of the Western Hemisphere. Sketches about life in the USA: work, leisure, interethnic relations, religion, migration, protection of cultural heritage and nature, etc. When I moved to live in the USA, I deliberately did not lead the life of a typical local citizen. I made my living by writing articles for various media outlets, organizing lecture tours at various American universities, and sometimes even being a taxi driver for Uber. Such a life had enormous advantages - I was not tied to one place and could afford long trips throughout the country. I often spent the night in a tent and met a lot of people, including homeless people and downshifters. I have lived on Indian reservations and in a remote village in the Alaskan taiga, accessible only by boat or plane. Of course, this book describes not only extreme America. I tried to show as many facets of American life as possible.
