The main character of this fascinating and tough novel “The Rat King” has a strange profession: he is a pest control specialist. His cannibal rats destroy their own kind so that they never return to their old home. The novel has three storylines: a meeting of the protagonist with an old friend who was captured by the Mujahideen, as well as with a cousin who turned out to be an employee of the Stasi (Ministry of State Security GDR) and the son of a Nazi. The second line is the story of the hero’s grandfather, a maximalist Socialist Revolutionary militant. And finally, the third is the story of the hero’s aunt, who found herself in Nazi-occupied France. The novel takes place from the beginning of the twentieth century to the present day. Characters and events are often documentary.
