The collection of the National Art Museum of Mexico City reflects the history of the development of the Mexican national school of fine arts; its collection includes works from the 16th to the mid-20th century. The museum's exhibition is organized chronologically and covers three main stages in the development of Mexican art - colonial (from 1550 to 1821), the period from independence to the revolution of 1910-1917 and post-revolutionary time - until the 1950s. The National Art Museum of Mexico City is one of the most beautiful and visited art museums in the Mexican capital. It is located in the historical center of Mexico City, on Tacuba Street. The museum is remarkable for the very building in which it is located. This is a magnificent neoclassical palace built in 1911 by the Italian architect Silvio Contri. The interior of the museum is decorated with frescoes by Rivera, Siqueros and Orozco. The decoration of the Reception Hall imitates the luxurious design of similar halls in European capitals. It is lavishly decorated with metal and glass ornaments, as well as allegorical frescoes depicting themes such as science, art, freedom, history, labor and development. A sumptuous double staircase of bronze and marble leads to a semicircular window three stories high.Cover: J. M. Velasco. "View of the Valley of Mexico from Mount Guadalupe in 1905." Fragment.
