The monograph is devoted to theoretical and methodological issues in the study of Soviet artistic cinema as a unique source on the history of the Russian village in the 20th century. The problems of analysis and interpretation of audiovisual sources are considered, the history of Soviet cinema is revealed in the context of the approaches used by filmmakers to reflect Soviet reality, and filmography about the village is analyzed. Based on the use of methods of quantitative and qualitative analysis of films of the Soviet period, a reconstruction of the main plots of rural history was carried out. Particular attention is paid to the study of the influence of art cinema on the formation of the historical memory of new generations.
