This textbook outlines the fundamentals of thermodynamics and statistical physics of equilibrium and nonequilibrium systems. The non-traditional structure of presentation, in which the basic laws of thermodynamics act as an experimental basis for statistical physics, makes it possible to make quite complex problems of theoretical physics accessible to students of both pedagogical and technical universities and specialties. The second edition (1st - 1985) has been significantly revised taking into account many years of experience in teaching theoretical physics at a pedagogical university.
