Forsyth, before coming to writing, honed his pen in the genre of reportage. At the age of 20, Frederick, having said goodbye to military service, began working as a journalist for the Eastern Daily Press, and at the age of 23 he became an employee of the British news agency Reuters. Forsythe's first writing experience was a book of essays, The Tale of Biafra. In early 1970 he was sacked as the BBC's correspondent in Nigeria. The reason for the resignation was the discrepancy between the journalist’s opinion and the British point of view on the civil war in this African country. Feeling like a failure, Frederick created an underdog hero plotting the assassination of French President Charles de Gaulle. The novel “The Day of the Jackal,” written by Forsythe in 5 weeks, became the author’s most successful work. 27 publishing houses rejected the manuscript, and only the editors of Viking Press realized what a diamond the writer had brought for consideration, and signed a contract with Frederick to write three more novels. This is how “ODESSA Dossier”, “Dogs of War” and “Guide” appeared. Forsyth's signature technique is that the plot in most of his works takes place 3-4 years after the book's publication date. The author shows the average person the near future and thus intrigues him. Another “trick” of the prose writer is the careful elaboration of details: Frederic’s descriptions of airports, train stations, weapons and communications are very reliable, and the reader, having fallen for the bait of verisimilitude, begins to believe in the plot of the novels. Forsyth's bibliography includes collections of short stories ("No Return") and novellas ("Veteran"), as well as the stand-out novel "The Phantom of Manhattan", which is a continuation of the musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber based on the novel "The Phantom of the Opera" by Gaston Leroux. The character Mike Martin and his brother Terry are the heroes of two works by the prose writer - “The Fist of Allah” and “The Afghan”. Contents: 1. Frederick Forsyth: Afghan (Translation: S. Samuylov)2. Frederick Forsyth: In the Fool (Translation: Margarita Lobia)3. Arthur Conan Doyle: English detective. The best (Translation: Vitaly Mikhalyuk)4.
