They are ODESSIANS. Children of the “pearl by the sea”, children of their “mother”. They are different. So different! They are reflective intellectuals and rebel high school students. They are aristocratic nobles and daring, dashing people from Moldavanka and Peresyp. They are, finally, people who have absorbed the most sorrowful and long-suffering culture of our world. They are Odessa residents of 1905. And terribly aware of what awaits them ahead. Because each of them is just a spark in the fire of Russian history of the twentieth century. Again and again the ancient bitter words are heard: “Weep not for those who leave, but for those who remain, for those who have gone taste peace...”
