The empire was overwhelmed by a wave of invasions. Northern barbarians - Goths and Vandals - ravage cities and villages, knocking on the gates of Constantinople and Rome. Ambitious people strive for power, sparing neither those near nor those far away. Emperors rise to the top by the will of the masses of soldiers, only to perish in a short time in a bloody frenzy. Only the Christian faith can save the state, as Bishop Ambrose of Milan and the divine Theodosius, whom flatterers call the Great, think. By their will, the temples of the pagan gods, who brought glory to Great Rome, are destroyed. But devout faith does not save where the sword rules. Some people think that the end of the world has already come, others long for storms and renewal. The new world is being born in pain, but no one knows what it will be like.
