At the center of the story by MARINA RACHKO (journalist, poetess, translator) is a hundred years of life of a Russian woman, born in St. Petersburg during the reign of Alexander the Third, who survived three revolutions, five wars, terror, blockade and was ultimately sentenced to USA. The fate and character of the heroine intertwine the tragic and the funny, stubbornness and conformism, wisdom and limitations, sacrifice and selfishness. It is presented either through the eyes of a child (granddaughter) or through the eyes of the author, and this technique helps to create a multifaceted, memorable image.
