We are accustomed to perceiving classical music and mass (popular) culture as opposite phenomena, but modernity refutes prejudices of this kind. It is the processes of “implantation” of classical music into the mass media everyday life around us that are studied on the pages of the book. How do the ideas transmitted by mass culture through classical music relate to the principles of “high” art and the content of musical works? What relevant values does modernity find in the art of past eras? What is lost and, conversely, added when transcoding auditory meanings into visual images? D.
